Teaching Media Literacy to Support Youth Digital Engagement
There are a wide variety of opportunities for youth to participate in civic life online during and after the pandemic. The purpose of this paper is to examine youth responses to the pandemic in 2020 through creative productions on social media and shed light on the role of media literacy education to help them make a further and lasting influence.

Parental Involvement, Online Communication with Children on Learning and High School Students’ Intrinsic Motivation During COVID-19
The study provides insights that home involvement in terms of home-based activities and parental expectations, and technologically-mediated home involvement in terms of online parental communication with children on learning, but not school involvement in terms of school-based activities and home-school communication, enhanced high school students’ intrinsic motivation after using controls in a Hong Kong school. The plausible reason is that part of the school’s teaching and learning was carried out online at home during COVID-19.

The Effect of Cognitive Control Level on Children's Cooperative Ability: An Empirical Study Based on Pair Programming
The project aims to explore the predictive effect of cognitive control level of children aged 7-9 on their cooperative ability (such as joint attention) and emotion during pair programming. The results of this study will enrich and improve the theoretical framework of children's cooperative learning, and provide guidance for active cooperation among children.

Introducing Data-Driven Learning to Doctoral Students in Medicine for Research Writing Purposes
This study explored how data-driven learning (DDL) could be used in the conventional genre-based academic writing class for doctoral students in medicine. A total of 102 participants were all enrolled in a 15 period writing course. DDL tasks were designed to assist them in investigating the language realizations of each move and step of medical research articles. Participants’ positive evaluation of the course indicates the potential of DDL in academic writing pedagogy.

Collaborative Development of "AIED+Community"
AI makes community development more convenient, which will normalize the "AIEd+ community". According to the theory of environmental shaping, this paper proposes a framework for the "AIEd+ community" collaborative development, which mainly focuses on two aspects: the physical and the social environment. The physical environment includes learning platforms about Intelligent Tutoring Systems and Adaptive Learning Systems, while the social environment is aimed at building a positive neighborhood and community atmosphere according to the constructivism theory.

Parental Involvement in Computational Thinking Education: A Systematic Review
The systematic review aimed at exploring parental involvement in computational thinking (CT) education. In this review, we synthesized types of parental involvement, parent roles, and parents’ psychological factors in the parenting process. We also supplemented a new involvement form in Level 2 of Hoover-Dempsey and Sandler’s Model of Parental Involvement in CT Education, namely parents’ support with concerns about using technology and CT tools. We proposed the Model of Parental Involvement in Computational Thinking Education.

Acceptance and Use of Machine Translation in L2 Writing: A Systematic Review of L2 Learners’ Experience
This systematic review aims to summarize, synthesize, and conceptualize second language (L2) learners’ machine translation (MT) use behavior, behavioral intention, determinants and moderators in L2 writing. Thirty-one empirical studies published before March 2023 constituted the sample for this review. A conceptual model, driven by the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, was proposed to guide language educators’ research and teachers’ use of MT in the L2 writing context.

Students’ Facial Expressions Recognition Based on DenseNet Combining Squeeze-and-Excitation Attention Mechanism
Facial expressions of students are a kind of external expression of emotional state that can help teachers understand emotional feedback of students in time to adjust teaching strategies. For solving several problems of traditional methods like low accuracy and poor feature extraction, we propose a new deep learning model combining DenseNet network with Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) attention mechanism, which can effectively enhance the accuracy of students’ facial expression recognition, which is significant for promoting teaching strategies.

Speaking Like Natives: How AI Could Nurture the Next Generation of Confident Global Citizens
Communication and presentation skills are rated as one of the most important 21st century skills; yet it has often been trained as reading and writing exercises in Asia. Using a combination of AI and NLP models, we turn regular grammar exercises into self-paced and speaking exercises with auto-marking, thus increasing students' confidence with conversational English without increasing teachers' workload.

Closing the Gap: Exploring the Gendered Impact of Project-Based AI Learning on Students’ Self-Efficacy, Career Interest and AI Content Knowledge
This nonexperimental survey-based quantitative study measures the effectiveness of a project-based AI learning program in affecting students' self-efficacy, career interest, and AI content knowledge, as well as addressing potentially gendered differences in the outcomes. The program significantly increased students' self-efficacy, career interest, and AI knowledge. Unexpectedly, no significant gender differences were found. Nevertheless, an inclusive and interactive AI literacy education can inspire young learners, particularly marginalized students, to pursue relevant careers in the field.

Influential Factors of College Teachers Online Professional Learning Completion: Learners’ Voice from the Global South
This qualitative study explored factors influencing online professional learning completion of college teachers in the Global South context. Guided by activity theory and self-regulated learning theory, we interviewed 40 teacher-learners and coded the interview transcripts. Results indicated the intertwined influential factors of college teachers’ online learning completion: The pandemic, platform design, teachers’ characteristics, course design, community, and the stakeholders’ roles. These findings have implications for stakeholders in teacher professional learning.

Differentiated Chinese Reading Instruction using Learning Analytics Approach: Action Research through a School-University Partnership
The poster is to share the findings of an action research project on senior secondary differentiated Chinese reading instruction using learning analytics approach through a school-university partnership. Data collection included focus group interviews with students and teachers together with drawing artefacts, reading test scores in a public exam past paper, and lesson observation. The project provides useful insights into the utilization of learning analytics approach to collaborative inquiry into Chinese reading instruction.

Global Dialogues as Transformative Pedagogy: Preparing Hong Kong Teachers for Global Education
The poster intends to share the findings of a teacher development project, Global Dialogues on Education, aiming to foster prospective teachers’ global mindsets and reflective thinking in becoming aware of self impacts on education and making sensible actions in being teachers. Focus group discussion, accompanied with creative methods were used in the data collection. The project provides important insights into the utilization of global dialogues as transformative pedagogy for teacher development in global education.

Student-Led Online Tutoring During and Post COVID-19 Pandemic: A Study by K-12 Students
In an online tutoring program based on expertise exchange, K-12 students from different regions of the world use their expertise to help peers in need. Guided by theories on youth strength development, this study examines how the tutoring experience leads to changes in personal strength and associated academic and psychological effects. Findings will evidence adolescents’ personal development through this online tutoring program and provide insights on the further development of this technology-supported service learning model.

A Study of Interpersonal Neural Synchronization in Social Regulation of Learning
Multimodal learning analysis of social regulation in collaborative learning is a research trend in the field of regulation learning. This study proposed the idea to measure social regulation using functional near-infrared spectroscopy, introduced a method to analyze interpersonal neural synchronization data when social regulation learning occurred, and carried out an exploratory study to provide evidence for researchers to evaluate social regulation learning from a neurophysiological level.

Teaching AI to Youth in a Practical and Engaging Manner
MakerBay Foundation had been supporting schools and NGOs on AI education For the past year, MakerBay Foundation taught over 1000 youths ages 8 to 18 on AI education and 400 educators or social workers on how to adapt AI to their workpace. This presentation will share the useful resources on promoting AI education and demonstrate the best practices on guiding students to develop their own AI projects.

Real-time Data-Driven Classroom for Table Tennis Teaching
In traditional classroom table tennis teaching, teachers have limited time and resources for personalized instruction. In order to improve the efficiency and customization of classroom teaching, this project applies computer vision technology to achieve a real-time data-based form of table tennis classroom teaching, which can provide feedback on beginners' padding, serves and strokes training. This project also uses artificial intelligence to analyze the real-time data to provide guidance for teaching.

Teacher Competence for AI Education in K-12 Settings: Lessons Learned from the Tutors of Science and Technology Innovation Competition in Guangdong
This study presents a qualitative analysis of interviews with seven K-12 IT teachers in Guangdong who coached student winners in science and technology innovation competitions. The analysis focuses on four aspects: teacher perceptions of AI education, classroom practices for teaching AI, professional learning opportunities in relation to AI, and school support for AI education. The findings offer valuable insights into the development of AI curriculum for pre-service and in-service IT teachers.

Improving Code Readability for Novice Coders: a Tool for Actionable Feedback
The readability of code is a common issue that affects novice coders. This paper describes a tool that provides actionable feedback on code readability. The tool identifies a set of actionable features and uses them to train a model that can provide useful feedback to novice coders. The tool complements existing automated tools used for code correctness. This paper offers a practical solution for helping novice coders to become more proficient in coding.
